Dr Ilana Gory is a gastroenterologist and hepatologist who combines private practice with a public appointment at The Alfred Hospital. She has a broad range of interests and investigates and treats all gastrointestinal complaints including bowel cancer screening, liver disease (special interest in NAFLD), functional gut disorders and inflammatory bowel disease.

Ilana is committed to improving the health outcomes of her patients and providing medical support with a holistic and caring approach.

Dr Emily Wright
MBBS (Hons), PhD, FRACP

Dr Emily Wright combines private practice with a senior medical specialist appointment at St Vincent’s Public Hospital where she is part of the gastroenterology and inflammatory bowel disease units. Emily has an interest in luminal gastroenterology. Emily holds an appointment at the University of Melbourne and is active clinical researcher in inflammatory bowel disease and the gastrointestinal microbiota.

She has access to clinical trials for patients with inflammatory bowel disease through St Vincent’s Hospital Melbourne.

Dr Sasha Fehily
MBBS (Hons), MPH FRACP

Dr Sasha Fehily is a gastroenterologist and clinician researcher working at St Vincent’s Hospital and undertaking a PhD through the University of Melbourne. Her research involves examining the human microbiome and she is currently leading a trial evaluating faecal transplant in Crohn’s disease.

She has wide-ranging interests in addition to inflammatory bowel disease including, functional gut disorders and liver disease.

Her Masters of Public Health and work overseas in developing countries has shaped her holistic and open-minded approach that encompasses the public health sphere. As a gastroenterologist her focus is providing the utmost quality of care to patients, and as a researcher, she hopes to change clinical practice.

Dr Emma Flanagan
MBBS (Hons), PhD, FRACP

Dr Emma Flanagan is a gastroenterologist and clinician researcher who combines private practice with a public hospital appointment at St Vincent’s Hospital Melbourne. Emma is an expert in the optimal management of inflammatory bowel disease during pregnancy. Having completed a PhD focusing on inflammatory bowel disease in pregnancy, she continues to lead clinical research as the head of the Inflammatory Bowel Disease and Pregnancy clinic at St Vincent’s Hospital Melbourne.

More broadly, Emma provides holistic and patient-centered care for a range of gastrointestinal conditions, including inflammatory bowel disease, coeliac disease and functional gut disorders such as irritable bowel syndrome.

Gastroenterologist 

Dr Rebecca Smith MBBS (Hons), PhD, FRACP

Dr Rebecca Smith is a gastroenterologist who combines private practice and her public appointment at the Alfred Hospital, where she works in the inflammatory bowel disease clinics and general gastroenterology clinic. In addition, she performs intestinal ultrasound at the Alfred which is one of her areas of expertise. She is heavily involved in teaching through her public appointment. Rebecca's main interests are inflammatory bowel disease and luminal gastroenterology. However, she is experienced in treating many other conditions including functional gastrointestinal disorders and liver disease. She is focused on providing excellent and evidence-based care to her patients. 

Rebecca was awarded her PhD in 2022. Her research examined the utility of intestinal ultrasound in patients with inflammatory bowel disease. She currently serves as the secretary of GENIUS (Gastroenterology Network of Intestinal Ultrasound) and has served on this committee since 2021. In addition, she is a member on the Communications Commitee for IBUS (International Bowel Ultrasound Group).

She is available for consultations at GSM and leads the intestinal ultrasound service which runs from GSM.

Dr Ann Farrell
MBBS, FRACP

Dr Ann Farrell is a Gastroenterologist and Hepatologist who combines private practice with public appointments at St Vincent’s Hospital Melbourne and Eastern Health where she works in the general gastroenterology, endoscopy and liver disease services.  Ann is an expert in liver diseases, and as a clinician-researcher is completing her PhD through the University of Melbourne in the epidemiology and management of metabolic associated steatotic (fatty) liver disease.  In addition to this, she has subspecialty interests in the medical management of obesity and viral hepatitis.

 

Ann’s broad range of interests allow her to provide patient-centred care for all gastrointestinal complaints, ensuring that every patient receives personalized attention and treatment plans tailored to their specific needs. Ann prides herself on performing quality endoscopy, undergoing regular auditing and recertification through GESA, and is happy to accommodate urgent referrals, as well as direct access endoscopy.

Ann is currently on Maternity leave, and will resume clinical practice with us early 2025

Dr Sarah Romero
BSc, MBBS (Hons), FRACP

Dr Sarah Romero is a gastroenterologist and clinician researcher at St Vincent’s Hospital, undertaking a PhD at the University of Melbourne in complications of liver disease. She is currently leading a registry study evaluating the value of endoscopic tools for cirrhosis prognostication. Sarah has a keen interest in FibroScan diagnostics and has contributed to local and international research in this space.


She enjoys managing a wide range of gastroenterological conditions including liver disease, inflammatory bowel disease and luminal gastroenterology. With a focus on improving patient outcomes, Sarah strives to make a profound and meaningful impact through her clinical expertise and dedication to excellence.
